Overview

What Is Lemon Bottle?

Lemon Bottle is a Korean-origin injectable lipolysis cocktail marketed for localised fat reduction. Unlike Aqualyx and Kybella, which use deoxycholic acid as a detergent to lyse adipocyte membranes, Lemon Bottle is a multi-ingredient cosmetic blend: riboflavin (vitamin B2, the source of its yellow colour), bromelain (a pineapple-derived proteolytic enzyme), lecithin (phosphatidylcholine, a surfactant emulsifier), and L-carnitine (a mitochondrial fatty-acid shuttle).

The proposed mechanism is that lecithin disrupts adipocyte membranes and emulsifies released triglycerides, bromelain assists in clearing tissue debris and reducing oedema, L-carnitine shuttles freed fatty acids into mitochondria for oxidation, and riboflavin serves as a coenzyme cofactor for fat metabolism. Important caveats apply: there are no published randomised controlled trials of the formulation, no peer-reviewed efficacy studies, the regulatory status outside Korea is unsettled (the UK MHRA has issued warnings and the US FDA has approved no lipolytic other than deoxycholic acid), and the mechanistic claims are extrapolated from the individual ingredients rather than measured for the finished product. Deoxycholic acid remains the only injectable lipolytic with a clinical evidence base.

Published Safety Data

What the published studies measured.

What the studies show
Measured in clinical trials
  • No formal RCT data for Lemon Bottle the finished product. The clinical evidence base is on the deoxycholic acid class (Kybella/Aqualyx), not on the riboflavin+bromelain+lecithin+carnitine multi-ingredient blend Lemon Bottle uses.
  • Inferred from injectable lipolysis class (deoxycholic acid trials, KYBELLA/REFINE-1 and REFINE-2): localized swelling (~87%), bruising (~72%), pain (~70%), numbness (~66%), erythema (~27%), induration (~23%), all transient, peak 1-3 days, resolve 1-2 weeks
  • Marginal mandibular nerve injury risk for submental/chin injections: ~4% in deoxycholic acid trials, typically transient (resolves within 4-8 weeks)
  • No documented systemic AEs because the mechanism is local
  • UK MHRA / regulators: Lemon Bottle specifically has been flagged as not authorized for sale in the UK; some seized batches in the UK supply chain were found to contain unlisted ingredients. Source supply chain matters.
