In plain terms: Vitamin B12 (Cyanocobalamin / Methylcobalamin) is a research compound — injectable, long-acting and well studied.
Vitamin B12 (cobalamin) is an essential water-soluble cofactor for two enzymes in human biochemistry: methionine synthase (converts homocysteine to methionine using methylcobalamin as cofactor, central to one-carbon methylation and SAMe production) and methylmalonyl-CoA mutase (converts methylmalonyl-CoA to succinyl-CoA using adenosylcobalamin, critical for fatty acid and branched-chain amino acid metabolism). Deficiency presents as megaloblastic anemia, peripheral neuropathy, cognitive symptoms ("brain fog", memory issues), fatigue, and in severe cases subacute combined degeneration of the spinal cord. The injectable form bypasses the gut entirely, which matters because oral absorption requires intact stomach acid, intrinsic factor from parietal cells, and a functioning terminal ileum — any of which can fail in pernicious anemia (autoimmune destruction of parietal cells), post-bariatric/gastric-bypass patients, long-term PPI or metformin users, and GLP-1 users where slowed gastric emptying and reduced intake compound absorption issues.
Three injectable forms exist. Cyanocobalamin is the cheapest, most stable, and most-prescribed in the US; it's a synthetic form the liver converts to active methyl/adenosylcobalamin. Methylcobalamin is the pre-activated coenzyme form, preferred by biohacker and naturopathic communities on the theory it skips a conversion step (clinical evidence for superiority is weak; serum levels and symptom resolution are comparable). Hydroxocobalamin has a longer retention time and is the EU/UK standard for pernicious anemia maintenance; it's also the antidote for cyanide poisoning. For B1201 (1 mg/ml), draw 1 ml = 1000 mcg per shot, 10 weeks per vial. For VITAM2.5M (2.5 mg/ml, 2 ml ampule = 5 mg total), draw 0.4 ml = 1000 mcg per shot, 5 weeks per ampule. This is the dose Jordan quotes by default: "Standard research protocol for B12 is 1,000mcg SubQ or IM, once weekly for maintenance." Customers who are confirmed-deficient (low serum B12, high MMA, high homocysteine, or symptomatic) typically feel a clear energy lift in week 1-2. Replete customers feel minimal subjective effect, which is expected and not a sign of bad product.
This is the protocol for newly-diagnosed pernicious anemia, post-bariatric/gastric-bypass patients, and GLP-1 users with documented low B12. The intensive loading phase mirrors the BNF/UK guideline schedule (hydroxocobalamin 1 mg every other day for 2 weeks, then maintenance). For PP customers, the same logic applies with cyanocobalamin: front-load to rebuild stores, then drop to weekly. Vegans/vegetarians with multi-year low-B12 status often need a loading phase before weekly is enough.
There is no clinical evidence that doses above 1000 mcg/wk produce additional benefit in non-deficient individuals — excess is excreted in urine (the "expensive yellow pee" phenomenon). The advanced protocol exists because (a) some neuropathy populations report subjective benefit at higher frequencies, (b) MS-pattern fatigue users push higher per Patrick Kingsley / orthomolecular protocols, and (c) some methylation-focused customers running MTHFR variants prefer methylcobalamin at the high end. PP carries cyanocobalamin; customers wanting methyl B12 specifically would need to source separately (off-menu request).

Use 25-27g needle for IM (5/8 to 1 inch) or 29-31g 1/2 inch for SubQ. Do not mix in the same syringe as other compounds. Can be co-administered same day as GLP-1 or any peptide, separate sites.
